The Irish women's basketball team was selected to finish 2nd in its first season in the Atlantic Coast Conference at ACC Media Day in Greensboro Wednesday.
The ACC Coaches and Media members picked Duke to win the conference.
The Irish beat the Blue Devils to reach the Final Four last year for a 3rd straight season. Despite the graduation of Skylar Diggins, Muffet McGraw says the expectations are as high as ever.
"They've got some goals--these seniors have only ever been to the Final Four," McGraw said Wednesday. "When you look at that--certainly they want to prove some people wrong. I think they have a little bit of a chip on their shoulder going into this season. The freshmen know it's important for them to step up right away. It probably puts a little bit more on them to know this is where we want to be and you're going to be on the floor so you better be ready."
Notre Dame plays its only exhibition game against California (PA) next Wednesday at Purcell Pavilion. The regular season begins November 9th at home against UNC Wilmington. The Irish open up ACC play December 4th at Penn State.
