While thousands of fans cheered the Giants and Patriots on in Indy, most of Michiana watched the game from the comfort of their own couches.
Families decided to stay home and relax on Super Bowl Sunday – but many of them let someone else do the cooking.
“As soon as we opened, our phones have just been going off the hook,” said Bruno’s Pizza Edison owner Blake Schirripa. “It’s been super busy.”
The pepperoni was piling up all afternoon at the Bruno’s on Edison in Mishawaka, as dozens of orders came in before kickoff for game day grub.
“So far it’s been hectic,” Schirripa said. “We opened up earlier than normal around 11 today.”
That’s five hours earlier than normal, all to keep up with the high demand for an easy, take-home meal. But some folks chose going out over takeout.
“I like to get out with the crowds,” said Granger resident Stacy Suski. “And enjoy the excitement and enthusiasm with friends.”
While they weren’t all packed Sunday night, several families spent the evening watching the game on big screens at bars.
“People are too isolated anymore,” said VFW Post 360 Commander David Kriegel. “It’s great to come and have a good time and watch the game with other people rather than sitting at home by yourself. If nothing else, you hear a lot more cheers.”
There were a lot more cheers and plenty of jokes for fans who watched the game at Mishawaka’s VFW Post #360.
“It's a lot of fun because there's a lot of back and fort between the Patriot fans and Giant fans,” Suski said. “Good, clean fun.”
Whether they’re rooting for the Patriots, the Giants, or a team who didn’t make it to the final game of the season, fans say Super Bowl Sunday isn’t as much about who’s in the game as it is about the game itself.
“Football is just football,” Suski said. “How could you not like it?”
