This Saturday’s game against Stanford is a big one, not just for Notre Dame, but for Irish captain Manti Te’o as well.
Two years ago Te’o played a fantastic game despite Notre Dame’s loss to Stanford. With his parents watching in the stands Te’o will have extra motivation to pull out an Irish victory in this Saturday’s matchup. Manti’s parents traveled from Oahu to see him play, obviously a special day for his mom and dad, and for all the Irish fans pumped to know his family will join them at Notre Dame Stadium.
"i tried choking back the tears, i think for us, and it's just incredible that he's lived such an amazing experience here at Notre Dame and we couldn't be any more grateful," Manti's Te'o dad Brian explained to NewsCenter 16 Friday night.
Manti's popularity is so huge his parents are now also celebrities. Fans came up Brian and his wife Ottilia after the pep rally asking for pictures and autographs.
"For me, as I always tell Manti, I'm so proud that he chose me as his mom," Ottilia said. "When i see him on the tv i think 'oh my gosh that's my son' I'm his mom. so he's just made me so proud of all his accomplishments."
This will be the first game Manti's parents have seen at Notre Dame Stadium. They will return for the senior day at the end of the season as well.
