Lakeshore wins 3rd softball regional title in four years


Denny Dock has the Lakeshore Softball on the path towards on the state championship run.

The Lancers beat Coloma 1-0 Saturday morning then rolled over Coldwater 8-0 in the afternoon to capture the Division 2 Regional Championship on their home field in Stevensville.

It's the 3rd regional title in four years for Lakeshore, which went on to win the state championship the previous two times in 2010 and 2011.

Lakeshore beat Coloma in a wild pitcher's dual that saw Coloma hurler Emily Najacht throws a no hitter but still lose the game. Lakeshore scored the game's only run on a bases loaded walk. Lancers' pitcher Rachel Knapp threw a one-hitter.

Megan Hiler then pitched a gem in game two, giving up just two hits a complete game shutout.

It's the 11th overall regional title title for the Lancers, who will next face Tecumseh in the state quarterfinals Tuesday at 3:30pm at Bailey Park in Battle Creek.
