After knocking off Byron Center 34-7 to capture the school's fourth regional title last Saturday the Lakeshore Lancers sit just one game away from a shot at the state title and a trip to Ford Field. To get there they will have to go through a tough Zeeland West team this Saturday.
The Shamrocks put up 594 points this season on their way to an 11-1 record. Lakeshore head coach Denny Dock and his players know they will have their hands full this weekend.
"It is one of the simpler offenses we have had to defend," Head coach Dock said. "But, because their personnel is so good and [T-Formation] is all they coach, Full T power footoball, it is also the most difficult we will have to defend. You have got to get a lot of people at the point of attack because they do!"
The Lancers have made quite the turn around from the star of the year. They returned just one starter on defense and got off to a 2-2 start at the beginning of the season.
"That was difficult," Coach Dock said. "We had some tough days out here. Once we got better on defense and once those guys got some confidence I knew we would improve fast with our defense."
And improve they have. They are now just one win away from heading to Ford Field and playing for a shot at a state championship. Senior Quarterback Michael Adams described his team as "really focused" as they prepare for a shot at the state title.
"It would mean a lot." Adams added "It seriously is a dream for us to be in this position right now and to be able to accomplish our goal to go to Ford Field and hopefully win a state championship. Can it get any better?"
Kickoff for Saturday's game is set for 1 p.m. at Vicksburg High School.
