The Notre Dame connections continue at Kansas.
Former Irish football coach Charlie Weis will keep Kyle Brey on his staff at KU. Brey was part of the old regime for the Jayhawks as the special teams quality control. He'll work as the offensive graduate assistant under Weis moving forward.
"I'm so excited that Charlie can be at Kansas and that I'll be able to stay with him," the former Penn and Buffalo tight end said Monday night.
Kyle is the son of Irish men's basketball coach Mike Brey.
"Charlie told me right away that out of respect for your dad, you can stay," Kyle explained with a chuckle. "Me and my wife moved down there a year ago and we are happy and excited for what Charlie is going to do at Kansas."
And hey, maybe Mike Brey's words a couple weeks ago helped out. After Weis was hired at Kansas, Brey walked off the podium from his press conference and yelled out "Kansas Football baby! Charlie Weis and Kyle Brey--getting it done."
That resulted in playing of tweets. Clever play for the veteran coach helping out the younger coach in the family.
