A day after sitting out against Air Force, Irish pre-season All-American Louis Nix is listed as questionable for next Saturday's game vs Navy, Irish football coach Brian Kelly said on Sunday.
Kelly had Nix stay in South Bend rather than make the trip to Colorado Springs as the 357 pounder battles knee tendinitis and a nagging shoulder injury. The Tendinitis did not allow Nix to practice at all last week, prompting Kelly to sit his star because going up against the option without practice is not a good idea, according to Kelly.
The Irish will face another option team this week against Navy.
"It will depend on practices & the quality of his practice," Kelly said Sunday. "Until we see him out there, it's hard to say."
Kona Schwenke started in place of Nix at nose guard in Notre Dame's 45-10 win over the Falcons.
Irish offensive lineman Chris Watt left the game with a knee injury and Sheldon Day re-aggravated an ankle injury but Kelly says both are probable for the Navy Game.
Linebacker/defensive lineman Ishaq Wiliams is questionable with a knee injury.
Offensive lineman Ronnie Stanley left the game with an undisclosed injury but Kelly says Stanley was just banged up and its nothing that concerns the coaches and doctors.
Notre Dame is 6-2 on the season and ranked 25th in the Coaches Poll, unranked in the AP Poll after a 3rd straight victory.
The Irish will host Navy at 3:30 Saturday at Notre Dame Stadium.
