SOUTH BEND, Ind.--- Tonight the Kelly Cares Foundation, which was started by Irish Football Coach Brian Kelly and his wife Paqui, hosted its annual Football 101 event which raises funds and awareness for breast cancer.

Due to rainy weather the event was moved inside but that didn't slow down any of the fun.

The event was open to women 21 and older and gave them a chance to work out with the Notre Dame Football team.

Participants worked on their passing, punting, kick returning and much to Matthias Farley's delight, tackling.

“This event has been supported so well from our community,” said Brian Kelly. “Each and every year you know five and six hundred people supporting an event where it has raised over $100,000 each year. It says so much about Michiana, South Bend and our community."

While there was plenty of fun to be had the focus of the event was still raising awareness and funds for breast cancer. All of the funds raised at the event go towards prevention and early detection initiatives chosen by the Kelly Cares Foundation.

"We are trying to do some educating along the way with some football but also we have got people that are coming back as groups of people who are breast cancer survivors and people come up to me all the time and say 'Hey I am a survivor 2 years out,' I say 'if you are one day out you are good’," said Paqui Kelly.

It will still be a couple of days before we know exactly how much money was raised this year.
