Irish practice in Florida, adjusting to warmer temperatures

Only four days stand between now and the National Championship Game. Both teams landed in Florida on Wednesday and played their first practice in the Sunshine State on Thursday. While Alabama is used to the warm weather, the transition from South Bend has been more of an adjustment for the Irish.

Weather was in the low-80s on Thursday as they took in their first outdoor practice.

The six weeks leading up to Miami have been crucial for Irish quarterback Everett Golson to prepare as the Irish stepped out onto the practice field at the Dolphin’s facility. The team practiced inside since the USC game in Los Angeles, Thursday marks their start of their acclimation to the warmer temps.

But the players say the outdoors is no big deal, and that the two practices will help them acclimate to the weather.

“It’s definitely important, I haven’t been back to Texas in a while when it’s hot so I have to get adjusted to that” said Kapron Lewis-Moore, “If guys are getting hydrated well we can get adjusted well.”

While the indoor practices the team is used to may not be as chilly as the outdoor temperatures in South Bend, Matthias Farley noted that it will take a couple of days to get used to the Miami heat.

“We got to stay hydrated. It’s hot out there so we’ll be losing a lot of fluids,” said Irish Safety Zeke Motta.

The Irish will have one more full practice on Friday, and then have several walk-throughs over the weekend to prepare for Monday night’s National Championship game.
