Irish football team confident heading into summer

Despite some struggles in Saturday's Blue-Gold game, the Irish football team appears to be making strides. After all, this isn't the same group that helped Notre Dame reach the national title game three months. Some pieces have changed and this team is forming a new identity.

"I think it's a very confident group of guys," Irish coach Brian Kelly explains. "They have got a lot of confidence in themselves. They believe that they are going to be successful."

"So I would say that the identity of this group right now is that they are a confident group. Now, we are going to have some tough times and we'll see how we bounce back from those. That's really the measure, right? Everybody is good when they are 0-0."

"But I like their confidence and with that, it's important to know that they have not slacked off from the little things and so they have combined both those things, which gives me a comfort level that they understand what it takes to be successful."

The Irish now slow down for a few months, although conditioning will be the main focus in the summer until August arrives and fall camp begins.

The Irish opens the 2013 season August 31st against Temple at Notre Dame Stadium.
