Irish baseball breaks into the top 25

Following a sweet at Tulane, the University of Notre Dame baseball team moved into the No. 22 spot in the most recent Perfect Game poll, and No. 23 in the Baseball America national poll.

The 5-1 Irish are now ranked in the Baseball America top 25 for the first time since 2006.

The team’s three-game sweep of Tulane was the first by a non-conference opponent since 1997. The Irish completed finished the weekend after never trailing behind the Green Wave in any of the 22 innings.

Notre Dame will return to the field this weekend in the inaugural 2013 USA Baseball-Irish Classic. The Irish will open the tournament playing against Massachusetts at 3 p.m. on Friday at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in North Carolina.

Notre Dame also plays Tennessee at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Virginia Tech and Rhode Island over the weekend.
