Believe it or not, the Notre Dame baseball team is set to open the 2013 season on Saturday.
While the team was able to workout outdoors on Wednesday, they won't be playing a game in South Bend any time soon. That won't happen until mid March.
The Irish open in Sarasota, Florida facing Florida Gulf Coast and Ohio State on Saturday.
Notre Dame was just 31-27 a year ago and 14-13 in the Big East but expectations are higher heading into Mik Aoki's 3rd season as the Irish skipper.
"I think we have a chance to do some of things we talked about when we first got here," Aoki said this week. "Compete for a Big East Championship--both the regular season and tournament title, getting to the NCAAs and establishing ourselves as the program it was in the early 2000s and throughout the 90s."
The home opener is March 22nd against Seton Hall.
