Irish Lose Heartbreaker to South Florida

The Fighting Irish Baseball team lost a marathon 19 inning game Friday night to the University of South Florida.

The Irish struck in the third then again in the seventh taking a 2-0 lead into the ninth inning. That's when the Bulls scored two runs with two outs in the top of the ninth off of Irish closer Dan Slania.

Slania would stay in the game and end up pitching 9 full innings, giving up 2 earned runs, striking out 7 and retiring 21 of the last 23 batters he faced. But in the top of the 19th South Florida took advantage of a couple Irish errors scoring 6 unearned runs to win 8-2.

The game was the longest in the history of Frank Eck Stadium.
