Notre Dame scored twice on the power play for the first time this season with Mario Lucia and Mike Voran scoring with the man advantage in the second period to give the Irish a 3-2 win over Lake Superior State on Friday night at a sold-out Compton Family Ice Arena.
Anders Lee scored at even strength in the first period, recording his 50th career goal at Notre Dame while the Lakers got even-strength markers from Kellan Lain and Domenic Monardo.
The Irish out shot Lake Superior State, 35-20, on the night. Steven Summerhays stopped 18 shots while the Lakers' Kevin Murdock had 32 saves with 24 of them coming in the first two periods.
The victory, the first for Notre Dame on a Friday night at home this season, improves the sixth-ranked Irish to 10-4-0 overall and 6-1-0-0 in the CCHA. Lake Superior falls to 7-8-0 overall and 4-5-0-0 in conference play.
The two teams will open December with game two of the series at 7:05 p.m. on Sat., Dec. 1 at the Compton Family Ice Arena. The Irish will hold their annual Teddy Bear Toss with fans who bring Teddy Bears to the game allowed to throw them on the ice with all bears collected going to Toys for Tots. Following the game is the Skate with the Irish and Santa promotion that is open to everyone in attendance at the game.
