The Notre Dame - St. Cloud State hockey game from the NCAA Midwest Regional in Toledo, Ohio., that startsat 1:30 p.m., on Saturday, March 30, will be televised in the South Bend area on WHME-TV - Channel 46. The station also will carry the second game of the regional that features CCHA rival Miami versus Minnesota State Mankato at 5:00 p.m.
ESPNU and ESPN3 are carrying all the games of the four NCAA Hockey regionals over the three-day period from March 29-31. The Notre Dame - St. Cloud State game can be seen on ESPNU on tape delay, Sunday, March 31 at noon. With the game on tape delay, WHME stepped in to carry the Irish games locally through ESPN Syndication.
The championship game of the regional will be televised on Sunday, March 21 at 4:00 p.m. by ESPNU. The winner of that game will advance to the NCAA Frozen Four at the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pa., on Thursday, April11.
Both days’ broadcasts will have Ben Holden handling the play-by-play with Darren Eliot providing the color commentary.
Notre Dame enters the Midwest Regional as the No. 1 seed in the region and is 25-12-3 on the year after winning the CCHA Championship last weekend in Detroit, Mich. The Irish will face the No. 4-seeded St. Cloud State Huskies who finished the year 23-15-1 and were co-winners of the WCHA regular-season championship. The Huskies lost to Wisconsin, 4-1, in the WCHA semifinals.
The Midwest Regional is a showdown between the CCHA and the WCHA as the second game features No. 2-seed Miami versus No. 3-seed Minnesota State. The RedHawks were regular-season champions in the CCHA and are 24-11-5 this season. They lost in the CCHA semifinals by a 6-2 verdict to Michigan. The third-seeded Mavericks enter the regional with a 24-13-3 mark and tied for fourth in the WCHA. They lost in the Final Five in Minneapolis with a 7-2 loss to eventual champion Wisconsin.
