Indiana High School Football begins next Friday night.
This Friday, area teams had their last major tuneup with scrimmages.
Concord and Mishawaka battled each other at Steele Stadium in Mishawaka. It comes nine months after the Cavemen beat the Minutemen in the 4A Semi-State to advance to the State Championship game.
Concord coach Tim Dawson is pleased with how his team looked.
"I definitely like what I see," Dawson said Friday night. "Our kids are playing hard. This has always been a great scrimmage here at Mishawaka between Mishawaka and Concord and isn't it kind of ironic it was just the Semi-State and here we are again seeing each other for the first time. I have a lot of respect for those guys. We did some good things but obviously playing Mishawaka, they point out some things we have to work on still."
Mishawaka coach Bart Curtis is happy he still hasn't another week until week one.
"See this play chart--we did it all wrong," Curtis said with a smile. "This is important because we have a lot of jobs open. The kids know they aren't just fighting for Mishawaka, they are fighting for a shot to get on this field a week from tonight. That's pretty important."
Mishawaka opens at home against Portage next Friday. Concord is on the road at Washington.
