Glenn names Jimtown's 'younger' Sharpe head coach

The John Glenn School Board approved the hiring of David Sharpe as its new head football coach. Sharpe, a Jimtown grad, has been a Jimmies assistant for the last several years.

"It feels great," Sharpe said of being named a head football coach for the first time. "John Glenn is a great community. There were only a couple of place I would ever want to leave Jimtown for, and this is at the top of the list. It's great to finally be able to say, 'Go Falcons.'"

He’s the son of former Jimmies legendary coach Bill Sharpe. David was a highly successful player on his dad’s teams in the late 1990s earning all-state honors as an offensive lineman. He graduated from Jimtown in 2000 and then attended Purdue.

Sharpe and Glenn will host Jimtown on August 30th.

So who is Bill Sharpe rooting for?

"Oh boy--I don't know," David said with a big laugh. "You'll have to ask him the next time you see him. I'm sure he'll hope for a close game--maybe triple overtime or something."

Sharpe replaces Justin Bogunia, who departs Glenn after winning 101 games over 15 seasons. Glenn was 5-6 last season, suffering its first losing season in a decade.

The Falcons open the season on the road at North Judson on August 23th.
