Michigan quarterback Devin Gardner changed his number to 98 Saturday night to honor Michigan's first Heisman Trophy Winner--Tom Harmon--who's legacy was honored before Saturday Night's Notre Dame vs Michigan game.
Gardner will wear the #98 for the rest of his career, with a special "Michigan Football Legend patch" over the upper left chest affixed to the jersey.
"It's difficult to say how honored I am to wear number 98," Gardner said in a statement. "You see Tom Harmon photos and prints all over our building, knowing all of the things he accomplished on the field for this program and then representing our country, and to have the opportunity to speak to his family today, it's kind of surreal. I'm extremely humbled and blessed."
Harmon's son Mark, a former UCLA Bruin and lead actor on NCIS, thanked the Michigan faithful in a pre-game ceremony.
