Despite just three wins over the previous two seasons, optimism is strong for the Elkhart Memorial football team.
"I believe we should have a winning season this year," senior linebacker Kaleb Summers. "We have a lot of veterans, lot of leadership. It should be a good season."
The Chargers return 14 starters from last year's squad. They understand two wins in 2013 and just one in 2012 are unacceptable for their program.
"We use it as fire and motivation for every conditioning and practice," senior quarterback Trevor Trowbridge explains. "We use our records really the past two years to step up our game and prove a point this year."
Memorial is entering year number three under coach Bill Roggeman. He believes his team is making the right strides but as he says, " the proof will be in the pudding."
As always, Memorial will get its most important challenge right out of the gate to start the season. The Chargers will open the year by hosting arch rival Central in the Battle for the Mangy Lion on August 22nd. It will be our Martin's Spotlight Game of the Week in Week 1 of the season.
