Notre Dame's next big women's basketball star had a great debut.
Freshman Jewell Loyd scored 20 points as the 7th-ranked Irish women defeated Edinboro 88-28 in an exhibition game at Purcell Pavilion.
Senior Skylar Diggins scored 13 points for Notre Dame and Kayla McBride added 12. Notre Dame's 3rd returning star, Natalie Achonwa, sat out the game with some soreness in her Achilles.
With Achonwa out, the Irish looked very young in the starting lineup outside of Diggins and McBride. Sophomore Markisha Wright, redshirt freshman Madison Cable and Loyd, a true freshman, all started.
The Irish shot 50% from the field.
Notre Dame, which reached the NCAA Finals each of the last two seasons, opens the regular season November 9th against Ohio State at in Charleston, South Carolina aboard the U.S.S. Yorktown.
