Four former Silver Hawks to play in tonight's All-Star game

Major League Baseball announced that Wade Miley, Dan Uggla, Carlos Gonzalez and Ryan Cook were selected to the All-Star Game to be played July 10 at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.

Miley's first All-Star berth makes him the first Diamondbacks rookie to participate in the Midsummer Classic. Miley is the 17th rookie pitcher to be named to the NL All-Star Team and first since the Marlins' Dontrelle Willis in 2003.

Atlanta Brave Dan Uggla played for the Silver Hawks in 2002. Uggla is playing in his seventh season (second with Atlanta) and will be making his third All-Star appearance.

Current Colorado Rockie Carlos Gonzalez played for South Bend in 2004 and 2005. Gonzalez is hitting .337/.394/.604 with 17 home runs and 58 RBI. All three numbers in his triple-slash line are better than his 2010 season line, which saw him finish in third place for the N.L. M.V.P. award.

In his first full season in Major League Baseball, the A's Ryan Cook has established himself as one of the top relievers in baseball. Cook's 1.54 ERA is lowest among A.L. rookies, and he has allowed runs in just two of his 35 appearances.

Congrats to all of our former South Bend Silver Hawks as they participate in the 2012 All-Star Game.
