Everett Golson, a "battle tested" quarterback for Notre Dame

Both Notre Dame and Alabama have settled into south Florida and they are now putting the finishing touches on the plans they hope will earn them a national title. The Irish would not have made it this far without the offensive leadership by the team’s quarterback.

Rookie quarterback Everett Golson is 10-0 as a starter and has been the key guy on the offensive side of the ball for the Irish. Throughout this season he has been unbelievable for Notre Dame at points, and has struggled at other times.

The six weeks of practice leading up to the championship have been crucial for Golson.

He has spent the break watching a lot of tape, working on the practice field and getting ready to essentially re-start the season. As a quarterback, Golson has grown immensely under the coaching of Brian Kelly and offensive coordinator Chuck Martin.

Martin said that Golson was definitely “battle tested” this season, saying “ take any other quarterback this year and try to figure out if they’ve gone through as much as Everett Golson, to me it’s not even close.”

Many have wondered whether Golson is ready for the biggest game in college football, but when you’re the starting quarterback at Notre Dame you’re used to the bright lights and the crowded stadium each and every week.

“I’ll I just say I don’t ride the wave too much,” said Golson, “I kind of focus on what’s played between the yard lines, what’s played on the field. You can’t really focus on everything that’s off the field because that’s out of my control.”

Despite being a red-shirted freshman, Golson goes into the title game as an undefeated starter on the number-one ranked team in the country. He’s the type of player that takes everything in stride, but the important thing is for him to continue leading the team to victory over a defense like Alabama’s.
