Its as simple as head coach Steve Stutsmen described it "Anybody who knows baseball knows that if you have got pitching you got a pretty good chance." Fortunately for Elkhart Central they have three of the best pitchers in the entire state.
Lead by the Ohio State bound Tanner Tully and his Northern Indiana Conference co-mvp Cory Malcom the Blue Blazers have found themselves with a 30-1 record and a their first appearance in a Semi-State game in 25 years.
It doesn't hurt that the third pitcher in their rotation, Riley Futternecht, is a All-Conference first team member as well. Each pitcher says that they love knowing the other is there to back them up. Futternecht added that a little motivation doesn't hurt either saying "It's fun. It is kind of like a little competition every time you go out on the mound. Trying to one-up each other."
The Blue Blazzers will take on Lafayette Jefferson for a Semi-State title at the Cove, Saturday at 4 p.m.
