Edwardsburg native looking to qualify for RedBud

The greatest motocross rider of all-time Ricky Carmichael was out on the track at RedBud Thursday enjoying retirement by just having some fun. Carmichael has done it all on the track as a rider and is now a team owner.

Among those that were also on the track at the same time as Carmichael was a teenager who's grown up at RedBud, hoping he can turn all of this into livelihood.

"I hope this can be my future--it's what I love," says 19-year old Austin Wagner, who just graduated from Edwardsburg High School last month.

Racing is in Austin's blood. His grandfather raced and his grandmother rode. His dad works in motocross as does his mom, who was a 6-time amateur champion. His Brother Brett competed as well and now Austin his hoping to make his mark. He'll look to qualify Saturday morning for the main event races for the first time.

"I've been wanting to make this pro race my whole life and I haven't made one yet," Austin explains. "I'm feeling really good and confident in myself that I can make it this weekend. I've had a hurt free spring, I've been riding a lot and have more time on the bike than I did last year."

And if he does qualify---what would that feel like?

"I would be so happy," Austin says with a huge smile. "It would be the happiest moment of my life."

Because this is RedBud and for Austin---RedBud is home.
