A fourteen-year-old teen from Dowagiac is finally in South Beach fulfilling his wish to see the Irish play in the National Championship.
Blake Dudley suffers from Duchene’s Muscular Dystrophy and is confined to a wheelchair, but his love for the Fighting Irish knows no limit.
Back at Christmastime NewsCenter 16 first spoke with Blake Dudley and his family after the die-hard Notre Dame fan wrote a letter asking to go to the BCS title game. Blake’s letter went viral, American Airlines paid for Blake and his family’s plane tickets to Florida, donors bought their tickets to the game itself, while others donate cash to make this trip as fun as possible.
Blake’s mom, Celeste Dudley, says the trip means everything to her son, “He knows as well as I do we would've never been here without all the support.”
For days Blake bugged his mom to send the letter out, and Celeste was surprised at the outpouring of support their family received, “things like this happen, but they don’t happen to you, they happen to somebody else. It’s just been very humbling.”
“It’s cool that everybody helped me out to get here,” said Blake the Sunday before the championship, “I just want to thank everybody so much for giving me the opportunity to come here and watch Notre Dame play.”
Blake says the thing he’s looking forward to most is seeing Notre Dame win it all.
