Gehrig's Dieter's performance Saturday night in Washington's opening game win over Bloomington North didn't just set a state record, it also ranks among the very best in the nation of all-time.
Dieter set the Indiana single game record with 373 yards to go along with five touchdowns and eight catches. His receiving totals break the previous record of 362 yards set by Burke Eiteljorg of Park Tudor in 1997 and Jason Yurack of Rushville in 1992.
The 373 yards receiving also ties him for the 8th most ever throughout the country according to the National Federation of State High School Associations.
Dieter had touchdown catches of 80, 45, 89, 64 and 48 yards.
It turned out to be a blockbuster effort from sophomore quarterback Daigien Morgan, who was making his first career start.
Teammate and Notre Dame recruit David Perkins rushed for 126 yards and two touchdowns, including an 80-yarder on the game's very first play.
Washington returns 19 starters this season on a team many project will contend for a 4A State championship. The Panthers are on the road at Michigan City on Friday.
