Clay Yeo does it all for Triton

Triton is once again in a familiar place.

The Trojans face Lafayette Central Catholic at 4pm Saturday at Lafayette Jefferson in the 1A Semi-State.

There's a big reason why Triton is a win away from playing for a state title---Clay Yeo.

His coach describes him as a once in a life-time player to coach. Next season Clay will take his game to the Division I level playing at Valparaiso under Bryce Drew. Something that Clay says he is looking forward to.

"I'm really excited," Triton Senior Clay Yeo. "That was probably one of the biggest decisions of my life to play at Valpo and he was a huge part of that. he's a great guy and I am looking forward to playing under his belt."

Yeo's teammates say he is a great leader and fellow senior Bryson Mosier says he can't help but be stunned by some of things he does on the floor.

"He just makes ridiculous plays sometimes and just gets to the basket, and he throws up a shot and it just happens to go in, and I'll turn to the bench and Trenton Cooper will just be like he's so good, I don't know how he does it."

Clay has been remarkable this post-season. He scored 32 of his team's 47 to win the district championship and then 35 of Triton's 51 to capture regionals. Something he says is motivated by the fact this is the end of his career at Triton.

"This is my last ride. I am just focusing on trying to score the ball because that is what my team needs me to do late in games and really in all out games, I need to play as best I can. So I am playing with a sense of urgency."

His coach, Jason Groves, knows there remains one goal Clay still wants to achieve.

"You know he obviously holds about every record that Triton has and there is one thing he doesn't have is a state championship, and I think that is his goal, he wants to get that accomplished before he leaves here."

Triton lost in the state finals when Yeo was a sophomore. He'd like nothing more than to get one more crack at it.

"It would feel great to go to state again; I mean there are no words for it really," says Yeo.
