Brey says he would support one of his players if they announced they were gay

Earlier this week, Missouri's Michael Sam announced he was gay.

Sam is expected to become the first openly gay football player in the NFL when he gets drafted in May.

On Thursday, Irish men's basketball coach Mike Brey was asked in light of the news, whether there had been any discussions at Notre Dame about how to handle such a situation if it would come up at the Catholic University.

Brey says he has not been a part of any conversations like that but did answer how he would handle the situation if one of his players wanted to come out.

"I have a very open mind to the world we live in now--there's no question about it," Brey said Thursday at his weekly press conference. "I think I would be extremely supportive if that is somebody, if that is something that came out with one of my former guys or current guys--it's the world we're in."
