Benton Harbor legend & Pro Hoops Hall of Famer visits alma mater

Benton Harbor graduate Chet "The Jet" Walker received a standing ovation Wednesday morning when he walked into the auditorium at his alma mater.

Cheerleaders cheered, the band played and students stood and clapped for one of the school's all-time best athletes.

Walker is a Pro Basketball Hall of Famer who played for the Bulls and Sixers in the 60's and 70's. He grew up in poverty but received a basketball scholarship to Bradley that helped him succeed in life.

"Benton harbor is my life," Walker told NewsCenter 16. "It's where I grew into who I am today. It's where I learned and where I developed the whole Chet Walker person. Even though it was hard times, it was very positive experiences."

The word positive was the center of Walker's message to the student body.

"Not about sports, not about movies, but just about growing up and being positive," Walker explained about the message he was trying to convey. "I think its important to be positive about your future, about your life."

"It's not difficult to be positive--nothing can come out of being positive than just good things."
