Skylar Diggins scored 16 points and Notre Dame is headed back to the NCAA Regionals after a 74-57 win over Iowa Tuesday night in Iowa City. After the game, the South Bend standout talked 1-on-1 with WNDU's Angelo Di Carlo. You can watch video of the interview above.
Angelo: Four years, four straight trips to the Sweet 16. How sweet is it?
Skylar: It feels good. It feels good for this team for us to come out and perform like this against an Iowa team who was playing in front of their home crowd and had a lot to play for. It just shows our experience, playing at UConn and at Tennessee and any Big East road game we get the best crowds. This team had a lot of experience on the road and I'm proud of how we played tonight.
Angelo: The crowd was really good. They helped bring Iowa in it at times and then every time they did Kayla McBride hit a big huge jumper or three pointer. Just talk about her play.
Skylar: She had a first huge first half for us. Just finding her spot and she's really confident in her shot right now. She's been having a great stretch of games where she's just scoring like crazy so we're just trying to feed her the ball. And everyone is aware, when she's scoring like that, we give her the ball. So it's good for her she kept us in the first half and I thought everyone came out when we got our transition game going, and everyone was scoring.
Angelo: I know you guys wanted to play on a neutral court, but in hindsight is this good to have played a very tough game early on in a tough environment.
Skylar: It's good and like I said we have a lot of experience and we had a lot of help with our tough Big East schedule playing a tough team night in and night out and that definitely prepares us for the tournament and for us to come and preform like this for the first two games I think it gives a statement. And now we're getting ready for Kansas go back next week, take care of our bodies and get ready for that game.
Angelo: I'm sure you guys want to keep this rolling a little longer.
Angelo: Thanks a lot Skylar. The Irish are off to the Sweet 16.
Diggins is now 26 points away from passing now Irish assistant coach Beth Morgan Cunningham as Notre Dame's all-time leading scorer.
The top seeded Irish will face 12th seeded Kansas Sunday at Noon in Norfolk, Virginia in the Sweet 16.
