NewsCenter 16 is counting down to the National Champion game by re-living each game of the 2012 Notre Dame Football Season.
Each sportscast until the New Year, will look back at a game from the season with extended highlights, storylines and postgame reaction.
Friday we looked back at Notre Dame's battle with Miami at Soldier Field. This was the Shamrock series contest as the Irish wore their alternate uniforms that some liked while others didn't.
The big storyline was that Everett Golson did not start because of a violation of team rules. Golson was late to meetings earlier in the week and Tommy Rees got the start.
But after just three plays Golson entered the game and as he said 'played with a chip on his shoulder.' Golson played arguably his best game of the season as Notre Dame romped Miami 41-3. Golson finished 17-of-22 for 186 yards in the air and 51 yards on the ground.
Notre Dame racked up 587 yards of offense including 376 rushing yards. George Atkinson III rushed for 123 yards and Cierre Wood added 118 on the ground.
Notre Dame improved to 5-0 and moved up to 7th in the Associated Press rankings.
