Weis: The Day after MSU loss

Last Sunday, Charlie Weis had to cancel his "Day After the Game" press conference.

His team played so poorly against Michigan, that Weis had them back on the field practicing the day after. The team didn't watch the game tape and returned to "training camp."

This week, the end result was still the same---a loss. And for the first time in school history, Notre Dame is 0-4.

But the 31-14 defeat this Saturday was not as lopsided as the Michigan game.

The Irish did score their first offensive touchdown of the season early in the 1st quarter and most importantly were able to establish a running game.

For the first time this season, Notre Dame had positive yards rushing with sophomore James Aldridge leading the way with 104 yards on the ground.

Because of the positives the team can build on, the Irish will do something they didn't do last week---watch the game tape.

"Now we can sit there and say hey 'this is good, this is good, this is good, this is good, this is good, this is good,'" Weis explained.

"Ok, now this is bad, this is bad, this is bad."

"You can differentiate the two and then we'll go out to practice and we'll go ahead and clean up all things that were bad---to make sure not only do we see them visually, that we go ahead and rectify them."

And Weis says there definitely was a lot that remained bad. He was especially displeased with the play of the special teams.

Punter Geoff Price was very inconsistent and was actually replaced in the game by Eric Maust.

The Irish also failed to make tackles on the opening kickoff of the 2nd half that gave MSU great field position inside the ND 50.

Notre Dame continues with training camp this week, but practices will be less physical than it was a week ago.

The Irish travel on the road next Saturday to face undefeated Purdue.
