Before today's game hundreds of former Irish players gathered to honor a man whose name goes hand in hand with Irish football.
A statue of Ara Parseghiahn was unveiled inside Notre Dame stadium before the legendary coach, his family, and former players.
Ara is the man credited with bringing Notre Dame back to its place among the nation's elite.
He also helped lead the Irish to two national titles.
The statue shows Ara being hoisted up by members of his football team following the 1971 Cotton Bowl win.
