Irish players on "training camp"

Depending on what happens Saturday, Training Camp---version 2---may extend until next week.

But for now, camp has concluded. The Irish spent the first 2/3 of its Wednesday practice still in training camp mode. The final 1/3 of practice was the start of preparing for Michigan State.

There are noticeable improvements in the eyes of the Irish defensive leaders.

"I just feel like we're playing a lot more physical right now," 5th senior lineman Trevor Laws says.

"Everybody's really stepped up their play---the offensive and defensive lines have been banging really hard. I just feel like people are playing harder than they have been before."

Irish safety and captain Tom Zbikowski sees additional benefits to returning to the "training camp" mentality.

"It pretty much eliminates all mental mistakes," Zibby explains. "When you go back to something that basic, everyone knows what they are doing."

"You can see whose maybe making a physical error. You're really not going to have mental errors when your doing base stuff and you get to see whose running the ball, whose got the effort and whose trying."

Notre Dame faces Michigan State Saturday at 3:30 at the Stadium. Coverage begins with Countdown to Kickoff at 2:30 right here on Newscenter 16.

The Irish are looking to avoid their first 0-4 start in school history. Michigan State is 3-0.
