Day 2 of Irish Training Camp, part 2

After its customary Monday off, the Irish returned to "training camp" on Tuesday.

In what is usually the first practice of the week for the Irish, Tuesday was the 2nd for this week.

The Irish also practiced Sunday instead of watching tape of its 38-0 shutout by Michigan.

The team is going back to the basics with the 1st team offense facing the 1st team defense while also adding extra intensity to the drills.

"Usually in training camp, we don't tackle on every play---almost always we stay up," head coach Charlie Weis explained following Tuesday's practice. "But I'm trying to develop a more physical mentality on both sides of the ball."

"To be able to run the ball with more physicality and pass block for that matter---and be able to stop the run and set the edge, I think that the only the way you can do it at this stage of the year with the limited time you have is to take it to the ground."

"This is now two days--both Sunday and [Tuesday] where every play is full speed," Weis said. "It obviously brings a whole different tempo to practice."

The full speed and physical aspect will slow down Wednesday. the Irish will begin to prepare for Michigan State midway thru Wednesday's practice.

Notre Dame will face the Spartans on Saturday at Notre Dame Stadium. The Irish are looking to avoid its first 0-4 start in school history.

Game-time is 3:30, with Countdown to Kickoff airing here on NewsCenter 16 at 2:30.
