The Clay Colonials began the season 0-2.
But that was before Northern Indiana Conference play began.
Now the Colonials have reeled off three straight wins including a 42-6 win over Washington Friday night in the Pizza Hut Spotlight Game of the Week.
The win pushes Clay to 3-0 in the NIC. The Colonials do not have long-time NIC powerhouse Penn on their schedule this season so a share of the conference championship is becoming more and more of a possibility.
Penn, meanwhile, jumped out to a 21-0 halftime lead against S.B. St. Joe en route to a 28-13 win.
Penn RB Richard Gunn had a superb first-half, scoring two touchdowns in the first two quarters.
The Kingsmen, the top ranked team in the state in 5A, are now 5-0 on the season. They are 2-0 in the NIC.
The loss for St. Joe is their 2nd in a row. They are now 3-2 overall and 1-2 in the NIC.
In other NIC action, Mishawaka ran over Adams 54-15.
Division I defensive recruit Ryan Warmoth played both ways on Friday night with running back Steve Sandefer likely out for the season with a possible ACL tear.
Warmoth came up big on both sides of the ball---with defensive stops at safety and a great night running the ball.
Warmoth scored two early touchdowns to the set the pace.
Mishawka is now 4-1 on the year and 2-1 in the NIC. Adams falls to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in the league.
In the Northern State Conference, it was a battle of league unbeatens as Jimtown hosted New Prairie.
Jimmies running back Ryan Konrath was unstoppable in the game, rushing for 263 yards and all five Jimtown touchdowns.
The Jimmies, the top ranked team in Indiana in 2a, won 35-24 and are a perfect 5-0 on the season.
New Prairie drops to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in the NSC.
In the Northern Lakes Conference, Concord shutout Goshen 27-0.
Wyoming bound offensive lineman Kyle Magnuson scored a touchdown in the game when RB Tyler Huxford fumbled the ball into the end zone and the 6'7" 300 pounder jumped on top of it.
The Minutemen are 4-1 overall and now 4-0 in the NLC. Goshen drops to 3-2 overall and 1-2 in the league.
Warsaw is also unbeaten in the Northern Lakes Conference.
The Tigers took care of Northridge Friday night 24-14.
Warsaw is 3-0 in the NLC and 4-1 overall. Northridge drops to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in the league.
In Michigan, Cassopolis took down Buchanan in a battle of undefeated teams.
The Rangers took a 21-14 lead into halftime on a Deshaun Curtis touchdown.
In the 2nd half, Curtis was stripped of the ball by Buchanan's Jon Mondschein. Mondschein picked up the loose ball and returned it deep into Ranger territory.
That setup a Marquis Hall touchdown to tie the game at 21.
Curtis responded with another touchdown to put Cassopolis back up 28-21.
They went on to the 50-28 win. Cassopolis remains unbeaten at 4-0 while Buchanan suffers its first loss of the season. It is now 3-1.
