For the first time ever, Notre Dame and Michigan both enter week three of the college football season 0-2.
And as luck would have it, the two rivals face each other with that first win on the line.
The Irish will meet the Wolverines in Ann Arbor at 3:30 on Saturday.
The matchup will feature a pair of freshmen quarterbacks going at it as ND's Jimmy Clausen battles UM's Ryan Mallett. It will be the 2nd career start for Clausen and first for Mallett.
Notre Dame is still in search of its first offensive touchdown of the season. The Irish are ranked last in the nation in total offense, rushing yards, sacks allowed and tackles for loss allowed.
The Irish lost its season opener to Georgia Tech 33-3 at Notre Dame Stadium. Last week, ND fell to Penn State 31-10 in State College.
Michigan, meanwhile, entered the season ranked 5th in the country but was stunned in the first game at home by Division I-AA Appalachian State. One week later, Oregon crushed the Wolverines at the Big House 39-7.
In that game, senior quarterback Chad Henne was injured and replaced by Mallett.
This week, Michigan RB Mike Hart, a pre-season Heisman Trophy candidate, guaranteed a win.
The game will also feature Irish Defensive Coordinator Corwin Brown returning to Ann Arbor. Brown was a captain on the '92 Michigan team. Saturday will be the first time he's coached against his Alma Mater.
