Clausen gets start at quarterback for Penn State game

Charlie Weis announced at a press conference that Jimmy Clausen will start under center for the Irish this weekend.

Clausen was the third of three quarterbacks to play against Georgia Tech on Saturday.

Demetrius Jones started the opener but fumbled twice.

Evan Sharpley followed, then Jimmy Clausen saw action after the game was well out of hand, completing four of six passes.

Clausen is one of the most heralded Notre Dame recruits in years, never losing a single high school where he started at quarterback. Now he’ll take that streak into Happy Valley as the Irish play Penn State Saturday night.

Clausen will not be available to the media this week. Weis said he will evaluate whether Clausen will be made available at a later time.

Normally, freshmen are not available until the bye week in the middle of the season.
