Disgraced former referee Tim Donaghy is offering an apology for the betting scandal that brought him down and rocked the NBA.

Donaghy tells the New York Daily News he's "very sorry about what happened" but can't say anything else because it's an ongoing case.

He spoke to the newspaper outside his Florida home and agreed to be photographed with his daughters and the family dog.

Donaghy pleaded guilty to taking cash payoffs from gamblers and betting on games he officiated. He's been released on $250,000 bond and will be sentenced November 9th.

He faces a maximum of 25 years in prison for conspiracy to engage in wire fraud and transmitting betting information through interstate commerce. He also must pay a $500,000 fine and at least $30,000 in restitution to the government.
