Central excited to face Memorial

With 13 seniors back, Elkhart Central has high hopes for this season after going 6-5 in 2006.

The hopes and expectations begin with facing arch-rival Memorial Friday Night at 7PM at Central's Rice Field.

The Battle of Elkhart is Friday Night Football's Spotlight Game of the Week.

Memorial has won two in a row and 3 of the last 4 meetings, giving Central all the more reason to be pumped to win this game.

"I don't think you can put this game into words---the emotion that comes from it," Senior quarterback Chris Roberson explains.

"As a Central student, you really want to beat Memorial," Roberson says. "I haven't been able to do that since I've been here so I'd really enjoy beating them and getting a big energy boost."

That boost Roberson speaks of is already there according to 3rd year head coach Mark Hummel.

"As soon as we came back on Monday, there was an instant energy boost," Hummel says. "These kids are not only playing their first ball game, they're playing a game of this magnitude."

"It's going to be a really intense game."

Roberson is a returning starter from last season, but not at quarterback. He was the backup QB in '06 while starting at wide receiver.

The Battle of Elkhart will be one of 7 games highlighted on the debut edition of Friday Night Football, airing Friday on Newscenter 16 at 11.
