Oh, so close for the Cubs

The Cubs made a concerted effort to rally and win on Tuesday but the effort fell just short, literally.

The Reds won the game, 6-5 but the decision was in doubt until the 27th our. Cincinnati got to Cubs starter Carlos Zambrano to build a 6-3 lead. Chicago got homers from Derrek Lee, Aramis Ramirez and a monster blast from Jacque Jones.

The Reds led 6-5 in the 9th as the Cubs brought the winning run to the plate ijn the person of Mike Fontenot. The former LSU star sent Norris Hopper to the wall but the ball was caught just below the basket in right-center field.

Chicago stays 1 1/2 behind the Brewers. St. Louis pounded Milwaukee, 12-4 at Miller Park.
