Charlie Weis will not name a starting quarterback until Notre Dame's opener against Georgia Tech on September 1. Weis was adamant that he is not trying to "sandbag" anyone but said the only game he will have the advantage of surprise is the first game. After the opener, each team on Notre Dame's schedule will know (at least based on the first game) which way Weis will go at quarterback.
Evan Sharpley, Jimmy Clausen and Demetrius Jones are those in the running to succeed Brady Quinn. All three quarterbacks have different types of play so the edge resides with Weis as to what look Notre Dame will have at least in the beginning of the 2008 season
