For 15 and 16-year-olds, it gets no bigger than playing in the Senior Little League World Series. The Niles All-Stars are representing the state of Michigan and the Central Region in the World Series, being held in Bangor, Maine.
Niles had a rough start to the Series, losing their first game to Venezuela 12-6 on Sunday night.
They face New Jersey Monday morning at 1pm.
Niles couldn't have asked for a better top of the 1st in game 1 against Venezuela, scoring 2 runs to take the early lead.
But starting pitcher Tyler Knisely was rocked for 5 runs in the bottom of the inning. Knisely would give up a 6th run in the 2nd and was pulled out of the game. Venezuela then added 3 more in the inning.
After two innings, Niles was already down 9-3.
Heading into the 9th, Venezuela was up 9 runs Niles made a solid comeback, scoring 3 runs but it wasn't enough as they fell 12-6.
Kevin Gross, Dominique Pompey, Justin Stroud, Jesse McCombs and Cody Udell had the 5 hits for Niles in the game.
