"There will be freshmen on the field in the 1st game and it won't be in mop-up duty. I can tell you that," Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis said.
The freshmen class is looking very strong for the 2007 season and its not just highly touted quarterback Jimmy Clausen.
"It won't be just one; It will be multiples," Weis explained. "As you know, I'm not afraid to play the best guys and if the best guys are freshmen, they will play."
Among those impressing so far are running back Armando Allen, wide receiver Golden Tate and tight end Mike Ragone. Those three bring speed and explosiveness that the Irish can use.
"They all run very, very fast for the position they play,"Weis said.
"Having more guys with the potential to score when they have the ball rather than getting just a 10 yard gain---having the potential to take it to the house---that's important."
Wideout Duval Kamara, running back Robert Hughes and linebackers Kerry Neal and Brian Smith are also looking strong in camp, according to Weis.
