When people think of Michiana football, they think of the Penn Kingsmen.
Winners of the NIC for 21 straight seasons, Penn will enter the 2007 season without one important piece of hardware to defend.
The Sectional Championship.
Last season, the Kingsmen failed to win Sectionals for the first time since 1994.
Penn also graduated 14 of its 22 starters.
But Penn is Penn. And until proven otherwise, they remain the team to beat in 2007 in Michiana.
Cory Yeoman's team returns three offensive lineman including Notre Dame bound center Braxston Cave. Fellow 300-pounder Mike Smith and Mike Garbaciak also return for their senior seasons.
Penn also brings back running backs Richard Gunn and Steve Depositar, but have a new quarterback in senior Coley Moore.
Moore has some experience at QB, and has excellent family genes. His brother, Eric (also a QB), led the Kingsmen to its last state championship in 2000.
On defense, the Kingsmen return just three starters, all at one position---linebacker.
Penn will replace its entire defensive line and secondary.
The Kingsmen open up the season on August 17th on the road at Valpo.
