Riley football ready for big season

Believe it or not, opening night for high school football is just three weeks away, with practices beginning this Monday.

S.B. Adams, S.B. Riley, S.B. Clay, S.B. St. Joseph, Marian, New Prairie and John Glenn took part in picture day at the College Football Hall of Fame on Friday.

Riley could be the surprise team in 2007. Last year, the Wildcats were just 3 and 7 and they lost 3-year starting quarterback Andrew Wiand.

But Riley has a ton of experience back on defense. In fact, the team returns all 11 starters on the defensive side of the ball.

That could be huge for a team that will adjust to a new quarterback under a new offensive system.

The new system is courtesy of a new head coach. Mike Nate takes over for the Wildcats this year and has high expectations.

Nate envisions winning at least six games, possibly 8 or more. He says anything less than that will be a big disappointment.

Riley opens the season at home on August 17th against Northridge.

NewsCenter 16 will have more on the upcoming season throughout the weekend.

There will also be a new look to our coverage of high school football on NewsCenter 16. It is called Friday Night Football. As we get closer to the start of the season, we will have details on what you, the fan, can expect on Friday Night Football.
