The NCAA ruled Wednesday that the University of Oklahoma will have to vacate eight wins from the 2005 season.

Teams that lost to the Sooners do not pick up victories, but they do get to knock off a loss from their total.

According to the NCAA, Oklahoma is 0-5 for 2005 with a notation that eight games were vacated.

The ruling came about after it was discovered that several players, including starting quarterback Rhett Bomar, had received over $17,000 for work they did not perform at a Norman car dealership.

Oklahoma said it will appeal the ruling, which also will cost the Sooners four scholarships over two years and extend a probationary period for two more years to 2010.
