Cubs Lose While Sox, Tigers Win

The defending AL Champions will head into the All-Star break in 1st place in the AL Central.

The Tigers swept AL East leading Boston with a 6-5 win on Sunday, moving a game ahead of the Indians, who lost 1-0 to Toronto.

The win is the 5th straight for the Tigers. They had 3 home runs and center fielder Curtis Granderson robbed Willy Mo Pena of one with an unbelievable catch.

The Cubs lost at Pittsburgh 6-2. It was just the 4th loss in 16 games for the Cubbies.

Chicago remains 4.5 games back of the Brewers in the NL Central. Milwaukee lost 7-2 to Washington.

Jason Bay had 4 RBI for the Pirates, including a 2-run single in the 8th that made it 5-2 Pirates.

Back in Chicago, the White Sox defeated the Twins 6-3.

Jim Thome and Paul Konerko hit back-to-back homers in the 4th to lead the Sox.

The big news came after the game when it was announced on the jumbo-tron that ace pitcher Mark Buerhle will remain in Chicago.

Buerhle has agreed to a 4-year, $56 million contract. Buerhle got a big ovation from the crowd when he came out of the dugout.
