Fmr. Irish Star Matt Carroll Signs Long-Term Deal

Coming out of Notre Dame, Matt Carroll went un-drafted.

He headed into three NBA camps and was cut by all three teams.

He then spent time in the National Basketball Developmental League, honing his skills, hoping for another shot at the big-time.

That came from the Charlotte Bobcats in 2004. Last season, Carroll had his best season as a pro. He averaged 12 points per game, working his way into the Bobcats starting lineup by season's end.

Now, he's being rewarded. Carroll and the Bobcats have come to terms on a 6-year deal worth $27 million. Carroll will sign the contract when he returns from a trip in China next week.

Carroll played at Notre Dame from 1999-2003. He averaged 20 points per game in his senior season with the Irish.

The 6'6" guard is a 3-point specialist. Last year, he shot 42 percent from beyond the arc.

His contract pays him $4.5 million per season. That's about $3.5 million more than he made last season.
