Notre Dame came out stroking the three and built a huge halftime lead en route to a 93-78 win last night at Purcell Pavilion over Providence in the Big East opener.

Jonathon Peoples came off the bench to hit all five of his long-distance shots as he led the Irish with 23 points. Tim Abromaitis added 22 while the All-American Luke Harangody scored 19 points and had 13 rebounds. He set the school record for double-doubles breaking the record that had been held by LaPhono Ellis.

A 21-point halftime lead was cut to nine but the Irish showed a chuck of poise and never panicked. Abromaitis had five big points in a two-possession stretch while Tory Jackson recorded a huge three-point play to seal the deal.

It was the 200th win for Mike Brey as the Irish head coach. ND now faces UConn on the weekend. The Huskies were upset by Cincinnnati on Wednesday.
